Barney Wilen was a French jazz saxophonist, composer and record producer who came to prominence in 1957 when he was recruited by Miles Davis to join René Urtreger, Pierre Michelot, Kenny Clarke on the soundtrack to Louis Malle's 1957 movie 'Ascenseur pour l'échafaud'. Wilen went on to write soundtracks to other films, most notably to Roger Vadim's 'Les Liaisons Dangereuses' in 1959. A prolific arranger and composer, Wilen was also a notable musician in his own right, playing with many of the jazz greats from the 1950s until his death from cancer in 1996.
