Calvin Russell
A Texan who's made his mark on a bumpy road, Calvin Russell tells tales of an
old lone wolf with the help of rock and blues. France has adopted him, while
America knows nothing about him. Patrick Mathé of New Rose had the flair to
produce his albums, in particular A Crack in Time (1990) and Soldier (1992),
true plunges into the heart of white blues. Although he hasn't yet reached these
heights, Calvin Russell remains one of France's favorite bluesmen, where he
recorded the excellent live album Contrabendo in 2011. He died that same year,
on April 3, of liver cancer.
