It was in Sacramento, California, that the Death Grips project was initiated by
Zach Hill and Stefan Burnett, who knew each other from growing up on the same
street. The latter's experience, previously involved in a highly experimental
rap project with his brother, was a driving force. A first single was released
in 2011, shortly before the mixtape Exmilitary. Noticed and signed by Epic
Records in 2012, the band released two albums in quick succession, The Money
