Known as Doug Stone, American country singer Douglas Jackson Brooks was born in
Marietta, Georgia, on June 19, 1956. The son of a country singer, he began
performing as a teenager and recording in his studio, before being noticed at
the age of thirty by the Epic label, which offered him an artist's contract.
Success followed on from the inaugural album in 1990, with the hit "I'd Be
Better Off (In a Pine Box)", the first of a long series of country chart hits,
