Starting out in the shadow of the giants (he wrote for Edith Piaf, Yves Montand
and Barbara), Georges Moustaki rose to become one of the great
singer-songwriters of French chanson. The "Métèque", named after the classic he
sang in 1969, has become an atypical and essential veteran, and offers an
example of an artistic personality that has matured over a long period before
