Fernández is known by her stage name India Martínez: a flamenco and pop artist
who spices her sound with a Hindu and Arab music twist. Fed on a diet of
flamenco from an early age, India Martínez began taking dance classes in Córdoba
aged five and started singing aged 11, gaining the nickname "La Niña del Puerto"
after moving with her parents to Puerto de Roquetas de Mar (Almería). By 2003
she had signed a recording contract and welcomed the release of her debut album,
