JID is the stage name of rapper Destin Choice Route, who launched his career with a string of gold-certified hip-hop singles during the late 2010s. Born in Atlanta, Georgia, on October 31, 1990, he played two seasons of NCAA Division I football as a college student in Virginia before releasing his debut mixtape, Cakewalk, in 2010. That same year, he teamed up with members of Earthgang to form the hip-hop collective Spillage Village.
