John Butler was born in California before following his parents to Australia. He
formed The John Butler Trio in 1998. The album Three (2001) made the band
explode in Australia. Their acoustic blues rock evokes ecological and social
themes. Sunrise Over Sea (2004) made The John Butler Trio the leading Australian
band of the moment, and was also well received in France. Their success was
further amplified with Grand National (2007), which saw the band begin to build
