One of France's leading alternative rock bands, Les Négresses Vertes, formed in
the late '80s from former members of Bérurier Noir and circus performers
(Zingaro), seduced a public open to Latin American, Mediterranean and even Caf'
Conç' music with their album Famille Nombreuse (1991). Les Négresses vertes,
despite a shift towards electronic inspiration, had great difficulty recovering
from the death of their lead singer by overdose in 1993. However, the band's
career continued to be marked by eclipses (the DVD compilation Á L' Affiche was
released in 2006).
