Born on 23 October 1989 in Japan to a French father and Japanese mother, electronic producer, singer, and composer Maika Loubté was raised in Paris, Tokyo, and Hong Kong and was first drawn to music while in junior high school. After graduating, she formed the pop duo EA with guitarist Shinya Saito in 2009, making music under the moniker of Maika Leboutet. The pair released their first mini album METEO in 2012 before announcing their hiatus. Two years later, she launched her solo career as Maika Loubté with the 100 album.
