With their funky, slapping bass lines and quirky strangeness, Primus were an
oddity of the 1990s alternative rock scene, yet proved highly influential in
ushering in a new era of nu metal bands. Formed by talented bass player Les
Claypool in California in 1994, the group's early independent album 'Frizzle
Fry' earned them support slots with Jane's Addiction and U2 and a major label
deal with Interscope as their reputation grew. Their big breakthrough came when
single 'My Name Is Mud' became a cult hit on MTV and sent album 'Pork Soda' to
number seven in the 1993 US charts.
