René Carol (* April 11, 1920 in Berlin; † April 9, 1978 in Minden) was a pop
singer from Germany. He celebrated his greatest time in the 1950s and 1960s.
Born Gerhard Tschirschnitz, the singer initially began an apprenticeship as a
mechanic. After the end of the Second World War, he was taken prisoner of war in
France. During this time, he performed in bars and nightclubs. An underworld
figure sympathetic to him provides him with a passport in the name of Rene
