Richard "Groove" Holmes earned his nickname as a jazz organist whose rhythmic, swinging approach made him a favorite amongst fans of hard bop and soul-jazz. Born in Camden, New Jersey, on May 2, 1931, he released more than 30 albums during his prolific career, beginning with 1961's Groove.
