Brazilian MPB star Seu Jorge was born Jorge Mário da Silva in Rio de Janeiro in
1970. After a period of being homeless in his late teens da Silva began to
discover his musical talent and built himself a successful career as an actor,
singer and songwriter. He is credited with having brought about a resurgence of
interest in Samba music in his own country.
His rise to international artistic prominence came relatively late in his life
when he began singing with the Brazilian band Farofa Carioca prior to launching
