The Finnish heavy metal band Sinergy formed in Helsinki in 1997. The idea for
the band took form when American keyboardist Kimberly Goss (formerly of Dimmu
Borgir) met guitar player Jesper Strömblad (formerly of In Flames) in the
mid-1990s. They slowly added more players, including Children of Bodom drummer
Alexi Laiho. Their 1999 debut album, Beware the Heavens, gained notice for both
the fact that they were a metal act fronted by a woman, and for their sound, a
