Best remembered for their 1963 hit "Be My Baby," The Ronettes helped define the grand, groundbreaking sound of 1960s pop music. The influential girl group was formed in the Washington Heights neighborhood of New York City in 1959, when sisters Veronica and Estelle Bennett began singing with their cousin Nedra Talley. The girls' grandmother entered them into a talent show at the New York's famous Apollo Theatre under the name The Darling Sisters.
